Jeremiah Burroughs
Jeremiah Burroughs was a Puritan minister who served congregations in Norfolk and London and became one of the five dissenting brethren at the Westminster Assembly — those who argued for congregational rather than presbyterian church government. The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment, drawn from his sermons, remains his most enduring work, offering a sustained pastoral treatment of a virtue rarely discussed in full. Burroughs died in 1646 before the Westminster Standards were complete.
