What is special about this edition?

For most of his ministry, Spurgeon’s Sunday morning sermons were taken down by shorthand, revised by Spurgeon himself, typeset, printed, and distributed to readers within days. What began as weekly penny sermons eventually became the sixty-three-volume Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, one of the great publishing achievements of the nineteenth century.

The original publications bear the marks of their history, with faint impressions, broken letters, worn type, stray ink, and other imperfections finding their way onto the pages. In this light, it has taken years of careful restoration work by a team of editors and typesetters to produce the best possible edition of these sermons. The present volumes are facsimiles that preserve the exact layout and pagination of the originals, but have been restored to unprecedented clarity.

This six-volume hardcover collection contains hundreds of sermons preached by Charles Haddon Spurgeon during the early years of his London ministry at New Park Street Chapel. Spanning 1855–1860, the set comprises 2,852 pages of Christ-centred preaching, biblical exposition, and pastoral application.

Spurgeon began preaching at New Park Street Chapel at just nineteen years of age. During the years that followed, his ministry experienced extraordinary growth, attracting large congregations and witnessing numerous conversions. These early sermons belong to a remarkable period of gospel proclamation and spiritual awakening in nineteenth-century London.

Published by Reformation Heritage Books, this edition features carefully restored facsimiles of the original sermons. Years of editorial work have improved the clarity of damaged lettering and printing imperfections. The volumes are presented in durable hardcover bindings and include new introductory material from Spurgeon scholars.

Spurgeon’s sermons provide a remarkable model of doctrinally substantial, Christ-exalting, and earnestly evangelistic preaching. Pastors will discover memorable illustrations, compelling applications, and examples of how profound theological truths can be communicated with clarity and warmth. These volumes are particularly valuable for sermon preparation and the cultivation of pastoral ministry.

Absolutely. Although especially valuable to ministers and theological students, Spurgeon’s sermons were intended to instruct, convict, comfort, and encourage ordinary Christians. Their rich exposition of Scripture and affectionate presentation of Christ make them excellent companions for personal devotion, spiritual growth, and family reading.
