We are grateful for the opportunity to have been interviewed by The Trinity Grace Podcast about Broken Wharfe. Each month we highlight a title from the Broken Wharfe Bookshop. In doing this, we hope to increase an appreciation for the rich theological heritage and relevance of Confessional Baptist teaching.
Every Book of the Month will be available at a discounted price!
This book by J. Ryan Davidson is aimed at the person in the pew. It is a helpful guide to understanding the ordinary means of grace. The book seeks to make the confessional position clear and to demonstrate it through the pages of the Scriptures. Written as a scriptural survey of the various ordinary means of grace, the book details the idea of what is meant by “ordinary means of grace” and it walks through the ministry of the Word, the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and prayer, with a chapter dedicated to each. Finally, there is a concluding chapter which includes a discussion on the weekly rhythm the Scriptures reveal for the nourishment of the people of Christ.
Recently, the author wrote to us saying, “My desire is that believers will see the wonderful gift that the ordinary means of grace are, and that they are the central way that the reigning Lord Christ nourishes His people. We have been given a wonderful pasture in which to graze as our shepherd supplies our spiritual needs.”
“One of the things that binds confessional Presbyterians and Reformed Baptists together is their common commitment to a ministry shaped by the ordinary means of grace. Such a ministry is not a matter of arbitrary personal taste but driven by our understanding of exactly what God’s grace is and how it becomes a reality in the lives of Christians. This short book helps in that regard, offering short, sound accounts of the Word, sacraments, and prayer in a manner that will help all of those seeking a ministry that reflects biblical priorities and teaching.”

“The proverbial ‘good things come in small packages’ is an appropriate word for Ryan Davidson’s Green Pastures: A Primer on the Means of Grace. This book will be for your soul what the diamond ring hidden inside a velvet presentation box is to a bride-to-be: pure delight. In simple, well-illustrated language, Pastor Davidson teaches us how the covenant Lord blesses His people with lavish gifts of grace. Pastors should distribute Green Pastures to their people, and God’s people need to wonder and delight in its truths. I wish that I had read this book forty years ago!”

Finally, we are pleased to announce that we have a new title launching in April 2022. Based upon a confessional Baptist perspective, this new Broken Wharfe title will address issues very relevant today.
